Enhancing natural breasts with the placement of implants is an exciting decision! Not only will breast implants boost a woman's self-confidence, they will expand her wardrobe choices and make it easier for her to choose a tiny tank top or low-cut shirt and feel great about the way she looks. Breast implants have grown tremendously in popularity over the years, and can produce a variety of different looks. Round, teardrop, big, small, saline, silicone — the options are limitless.
With so many choices to make, it's best to work with an experienced cosmetic breast surgeon who knows what he's doing. Dr. Joel Williams, an expertly trained Dalton plastic surgeon, has been sculpting beautiful-looking bustlines for many years and has garnered quite a reputation for exceptional patient satisfaction. His clinical judgment is excellent, and breast augmentation patients can relax knowing that his recommendations are based on many years of experience and training, perfecting the art of cosmetic breast surgery.
Candidates for Breast Implants
Suitable candidates for breast implants in Cartersville and the surrounding area are in good physical/mental health and have realistic expectations about what can be achieved by cosmetic surgery. If a candidate smokes, she will need to quit for a period of time prior to, and following surgery. Dr. Williams will determine a woman's candidacy after speaking to her about her motivations and goals for surgery. He will also carefully asses the patient's medical history to ensure maximum safety during surgery.
Making Decisions about Breast Implants
Once it has been determined that a woman is a suitable candidate for breast augmentation, Dr. Williams uses all currently available implants, giving patients the widest scope of options to suit individual needs. Implants come in round and teardrop shapes. Teardrop implants tend to resemble the curve of the natural breast, as they project further on the bottom than on the top. Round implants project similarly on the top and bottom. Implants may be placed either on top of or beneath the chest muscle. As with all cosmetic surgery, there are benefits and drawbacks to both; for example, submuscular placement (beneath the chest muscle) can look more natural than subglandular placement (over the chest muscle) and provides more of your tissue to camouflage the implant, but contraction of the muscle can flatten the breast.
Implants may be filled with saline or silicone material. Both types of implants have a silicone outer covering or shell. One is not better than the other, but there are some significant differences. If a saline implant were to rupture, it would be immediately noticeable, as the saltwater liquid quickly escapes the implant shell and is absorbed by the body. Silicone implants are made with a gel-like material that provides a softer feel, similar to natural breast tissue. Because the gel is cohesive, it stays together making it more difficult to detect leaks or ruptures with a silicone implant.
Another important decision to make about breast implants is the location of the surgical incisions. Implants may be placed through an incision made around the areola (periareolar), in the crease of the breast (inframammary), or through the armpit (transaxillary). Dr. Williams recommends the incision that will best suit a woman's unique anatomy and lend itself to the most inconspicuous scar.
Quick Recovery Breast Augmentation Surgery
Dr. Williams has used years of experience to develop the Quick Recovery Breast Augmentation. Breast augmentation surgery is performed at Dr. Williams' state-of-the-art surgical facility. Accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, the surgery center is designed for patient comfort and safety.
Dr. Williams makes the surgical incisions in the pre-determined location, and creates pockets for the implants. He then inserts the implants through the incisions and meticulously positions them in the pocket. Silicone implants will come pre-filled, but saline implants may be placed and then filled. Once Dr. Williams is happy with the placement and positioning of the implants, he closes the surgical incisions with sutures and bandages the breasts. The patient is then taken to the facility's recovery center.
Recovering from Breast Augmentation
Dr. Williams has refined his breast augmentation technique in a way that lessens traditional recovery time. It's not uncommon for our Dalton / Chattanooga breast augmentation patients to go out to dinner the night of their surgery and take only Tylenol for mild discomfort. Most women can also return to work within two to three days. Patients should follow all of Dr. Williams' specific post-operative instructions, including protecting their incisions, wearing a post-operative bra and refraining from any lifting or vigorous movement. Dr. Williams and his staff see patients several times after surgery for follow-up visits to check on their progress.
Benefits and Risks of Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation will increase the size and volume of the breasts to the patient's liking. If a woman has naturally small breasts, or breasts that have shrunk with age, pregnancy or weight loss, implants will provide ample volume. Breast augmentation is a very common surgery and has a low rate of complications. Breast implants risks include anesthesia-related complications, capsular contraction, rupture/leaks, loss of sensation in the nipples or breast, infection and excessive bleeding. It's important to discuss these potential risks with Dr. Williams in order to make the most educated decision.
